Attraction — San Jose

San Jose is a 20-minute journey by car or bus. The metropolitan area of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, comprises 12 municipalities with a total population of 1.5 million. Alajuela is one of these municipalities within a central valley surrounded by mountains. The central city of San Jose has a population of over 750,000 and is the Arts and Cultural Centre. The National Theatre, completed in 1897 was designed an Italian architect and theater expert and generally considered the architectural jewel of the country. The Gold Museum, located under the plaza of the National Theatre hosts thousands of Pre-Colombian gold artifacts dating from 500 BC to 1600 AD in a dazzling display.
While you're downtown, sample some delicious rotisserie chicken roasted over coffee wood from a second floor balcony looking down on the busy pedestrian section of Paseo Colon (Columbus Way) after you've visited the art galleries and souvenir shops.
